Gears 3 - Putting the shit back into multiplayer.
After spending many hours on the new gears of war 3 beta test, I can’t help but think - “what the hell have epic been doing!?”
After the online atrocity that was gears 2, one would think that Epic Games, developer by the way, would have recognized the flaws that plagued that game.
Gears of War 2 was rushed, no doubt, hence the ridiculous list of patches they put out for that game, trying to fix the ranking system etc, and trying to sort that GOD DAMN SHOTGUN OUT.
So I load up the beta, thinking, maybe, just maybe they’ve fixed the starting weapons, hopefully putting the shotgun in as a weapon that must be obtained on the multiplayer maps themselves.
Oh boy how I was wrong, instead of doing that, they’ve only gone and added ANOTHER shotgun as a starting weapon, which is EVEN MORE POWERFUL. I just can’t help but think, “what the fuck are Epic thinking!?”
This is the one thing, that makes playing Gears online even more frustrating than anything else.
If the game did not have this minor problem, for example, just load out with the lancer, pistol and smoke grenade, the game would be incredible to play.
All that aside, the new maps are an utter joy to play, putting games like Halo: Reach’s maps to complete shame, with incredibly luscious visuals, and the right amount of balance between each side.
And the new ranking system, blatantly following the example that Call of Duty 4 set, followed by Halo Reach and the successing Call of Duty games, isn’t too bad. It has some interesting perks, including weapon skins, which are pretty fucking cool, character unlocks, and unlocks for the retail version.
There is a pretty massive amount of unlocks to achieve in the beta, so hopefully in the retail release there will be a bomb load more.
Now putting everything in perspective, Gears of War 3 is FUCKING FRUSTRATING, even when you go postive every game, like me of course, it is literally, the same thing as before, just with some new shit. Bleh.
